The dynamics of phase transitions do not follow linear predictable pathways but, as usually in nature, the non equilibrium phenomena dominate the kinetics and thus bifurcative connected structures with fractal structures are formed. Bifurcation results in fractal structure formation, continuous percolating networks, and happens in non-equilibrium manner, instantaneously
Examples are paint or surface coating formation, gelation, percolative conductivity and freezing of a pond. The exponential kinetics are sudden and explosive. Such a technology is applied nowadays for detection of environmental issues for plain change detection and for preventive health approaches with point of care. The freezing of a pond is a good and visual example, with the change of thermodynamic parameters in the surroundings, the freezing results in the whole frozen lake within a night and not into floating frozen ice pieces. Or conducting carbon particles are touching each other in a connective manner, the whole piece of plastic becomes conducting, antistatic.
